Super Scientist Camp

Hi Everyone,

We all had a great week at camp. The children were very busy and the days went quick! It was nice to see the children forming new friendships at camp too. The children took part in experiments, activities, art and play that demonstrated basic scientific facts. We read And Then Comes Summer by Tom Brenner, Annie Bananie by Leah Komaiko, Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni, Froggy Builds a Treehouse by Jonathan London, What Makes a Shadow by Robert Bulla and My Shadow by Rachel Mitchell.

Outdoor Activities:

  • Planting a pretend garden-gardening tools & silk flowers

  • Sea creature play at the water table

  • Bug catchers & nets

  • Water sprayers on the school and rock wall (evaporation)

  • Painting with water (evaporation)

Indoor Activities:

  • Ice cube numbers/letters and salt solution melting activity

  • Measuring objects with rulers and cubes

  • Magnets

  • Light table building activities

  • Color Mixing at the paint easel-Red & Blue=Purple Yellow & Blue=Green/using nature paint brushes, pine needles, feathers

  • Build a Rocket Ship

  • Foil Printed Moon

  • Spaceship Craft

  • Shadow Art

  • Water beads with the marble run

  • Black beans with rocket ships, astronauts and stars

  • Space Pretend Center

  • Weather Station Pretend Center

  • Experiments: Gummy Bears-Which grow or melt quickest? Chemical reaction of baking soda & vinegar-balloon inflates. Rain cloud in a jar. Skittles rainbow experiment.

  • Space Yoga
